So, I made a goal to run a 5K way back in June. I don't like using the H-word, but honestly I used to HATE running. At the end of winter/beginning of spring, the craving to run began to worm itself inside me. I have had issues with my knees while exercising in the past so I knew the first thing on my list was to get some decent running shoes. Then I found a training schedule online that would get me ready for a 5K in 4 weeks. According to this schedule, I could use a combination of walking and running to reach each days' goal. I was determined to be successful and pushed myself to run the entire days' goal each time. I was so proud of my accomplishment. Then came the day of the 5K. I really enjoyed training on the treadmill, but obviously, this was an outdoor course...my lungs were on fire, and I got an incredible cramp in my side; yes, at the first sign of difficulty, I gave up. :( I ran and then walked and then finished running. I think I was able to run 2/3rds of it, even though I'm still disappointed in myself. Durning training, the 5K I ran took 40 minutes. As you can see by the timer, I was at around 46 minutes, so I guess the walking didn't slow me down all that much. I did sign up for another 5K a month or 2 later, but decided not to run it since I didn't find a babysitter for the kids. Instead, Jack, Miles and I rooted for Britton at the finish line. I haven't gotten back into gear yet, but I would enjoy improving my results come spring.
DISCLAIMER: I am ONLY posting these for posterity's sake! I have generally gotten by in this life with little care about what others think of my appearance and am just plain comfortable in my skin, but these pictures defy that rule. I abhor my appearance in these pictures, but am posting them nonetheless.

You are amazing and inspiring! I need to take a leaf out of your book!
Good for you! Who cares if you had to walk for a few minutes? You reached your goal of completing it!
I think you look fine but I know exactly how you feel. There hasn't been a picture of me on our blog in almost a year, and for good reason. :) I found a program for running that I'm starting on Monday with Derek. I don't know if I'll ever run a 5k but this post made me want to give it a shot!
