Our First Family Vacation!

Warning: Picture overload!
So, we went camping this past weekend...actually it was just a one night deal. We have traveled before (the three of us), but this was the first time is was only the three of us and it was a lot of fun. I've got some fun stories that go along with it, but I will try to keep the storytelling to a minimum here...

After we got there and unloaded the car, we went for a walk down to the point in the river where "they" get in and float back to the campsite. It was pretty warm and sunny out, so we rubbed Jack down with sunscreen and I was grateful he left his hat on pretty much the whole time. The first walk took about 15 minutes or so, so we took turns carrying Jack although Britton's turns were longer than mine :)

There is a section of the "beach" designated for little tykes...they had bulldozers, shovels, pails and other sand toys.

Jack got into the dirt thing...I was secretly proud

Here's Britton checking the water temperature

Jack thought he was too cool wearing not just his hat, but Daddy's too.

So, I got a little cocky about being a "One-Match Wonder" - I like being in charge of the fire (it was always my responsibilty at any camp I went to). It only took one match to start it, and I refused to use another one both of the times we decided to rejuvenate it. With it being in a barrel and all, I sure got a lot of ashes in my face blowing it back to life.

Roasting hot dogs for dinner. I'm holding the coke to ice my fingers. I accidentally touched the hot end of the metal stick...whoops!

Jack was being happy sitting in his makeshift high-chair (stroller) when we sat down to eat.

If you look really close, you can see the pink tint on my forehead and nose/cheeks. I wore my sunglasses all day Friday, so on Saturday when we got back I looked like a tomato, but skier style.

My handsome boy!! (Who desperately needs a haircut, by the way!!)

After dinner, we showered Jack and got him into his pjs and then went for a walk up to the "store". The rocks paving the road were much bigger than gravel, so Britton pulled him from behind instead of pushing. I don't think he figured out what was happening.

The inside of our cabin

Built-in bunk beds

After we put Jack down for bed, we broke out the dessert...

SMORES!!!

Eating smores in the shade of our cabin

After the sun went down and the fire died out, we decided to "turn in" for the night. This is a picture of Britton trying to find and kill the cricket that had somehow made it to the top bunk in our cabin. He was also killing all the (as he put it) "rabies-carrying" moths that had found their way inside, too.

About 5 minutes after that picture was taken Jack woke up crying and as we tried to console him, we realized something wasn't right. But before we could do anything about it, he threw up. Poor kid! That was the first time he had ever thrown up and it had to be on vacation. We were able to clean up pretty quickly and he only did it once more, but I was prepared with a towel, so no issues then. The only problem is that he got our comforter the first time, so Britton and I used a small blanket to sleep with and although Britton was so toasty warm he was sweating all night, I was freezing! That along with jumping up to grab a towel at any sound Jack made all night, meant that I didn't get any sleep. Sunday, when Britton was showing me 3 bug bites he had gotten, he decided it wasn't fair that I didn't get any. I told him I would have traded 1) being thrown up on and 2) not sleeping all night because I was freezing and waking up at any movement/sound Jack made, for the bug bites if he was that sad about it. He said he was fine...lol! (Disclaimer: We were just laughing about it...I'm not really upset or sad about how anything turned out. It all worked out and we had SO much fun together!) :D

Our cabin

The outside shower down by the river that we used to bathe Jack. (The inside showers weren't heated.)

As we were loading everything into the car, Jack was just playing by himself. He had climbed into the back seat on his own and was trying to buckle in...I guess he was ready to get on the road, ha ha!

This is the "Resort Store", well the right side is. The door to the left is where the flushing toilets and cold showers were.

So sad that Jack got sick, but holy moly he is getting so big!!! Jason and I are hoping to run into you guys in Kirtland this winter and I can't wait for these boys to play together. Most of Porter's friends are little girls. (poor boy)Cute hair cut, dosen't it feel good getting all of that hair of your neck for the summer!

Sounds like quite the adventure!

I think one night of camping is usually enough for me. It always seems like so much work, and I am sure having a baby is even more. Cute little cabin!

It looks like you had a good time. Where in the world did you go? I like to camp near showers and a bathroom as well. So much easier than the way we did it as kids. Kenny and I love to go to the KOA in Jackson Hole. They have some really cute cabins on the river. Love the picture of Jack. He looks just like Britton in that 3rd picture.

Yay for a family vacation! It looks like you had a great time (minus the bad night).

FYI - I WOULD NOT recommend this place (although it seemed a great place for the youth group that was there for a youth conference ... floating the river, sleeping in tents, group showering down by the river, and heading out for the manti pageant) for anyone who has kids and is looking for a place with flushing toilets and accessible showers, I would probably check out a KOA (at least I will in the future). Don't get me wrong - we enjoyed our stay, but I think I have learned my lesson about booking a reservation without seeing pictures of the place before-hand. If anyone is still interested, it is called the Misty River Resort and it's inbetween Nephi and Scipio. (mistyriverresort.com)

How fun! I also love your hair cute! And I just wanted to point out that you were probably holding the coke for other reasons besides cooling your fingers ;) Sounds like you guys had a fun time! What's a camping trip without burns, bugs, and someone getting sick!?!?

First, the first picture it is very obvious that Jack and Britton are father and son. Its a very cute picture. Second, the one with you, britton and smores you totally look like mom. Now I've never really thought the girls resembled mom so it was a little shocker for me :) Like your new hair cut. Love you tons!!!

Fun, I like camping in cabins :) Thats the way to go. We have yet to try camping with either of our boys, well actually we took Parker once when he was about 10 months old, in october, it was really really cold. I think thats why we haven't done it since lol.

Sounds like you guys had a fun time (minus the throw-up and the cricket), I don't know though. It might have been pretty funny for you watching him try to catch it! Glad that you have good memories, it is great to get out with just the small little family ever once in a while! Hey I need to talk to you about our next girl's night out. Email me when you get a chance and we can talk. It doesn't cost very much to rent our clubhouse and it is super nice! Talk to you soon.

I'm so glad you guys had fun and it makes me feel bad that we bailed on you guys, you definately had more fun than I did staying home instead! Maria's right, in that picture you do look a bit like mom. That is so funny! And I would have picked you as the one that looks the least like mom out of us three oldest girls. Except you have moms gorgeous teeth (which I hate you for). Anyway, thanks for posting all those pictures that was really cool. We'll have to find a place for our anual family camping trip!
